The Gallery Interno&DumDum in Bologna will host the interactive video-environment “Les lamentation du mur” by the multimedia artist Manuela Corti. This work was exhibited in Paris at the Donguy gallery in 1995, and is shown for the first time in Italy. The exhibit and the introductory text were prepared by Daniele Perra, technological art critic and expert.

The installation consists of a virtual simulation of rain inside the gallery. Using the synthetic sound of a 3D digital thunderstorm (prepared by Marco Montanari, artist and musician from Jesi), the projection of the computer image of a stone wall exuding “rain tears”, and real water droplets falling from above, the artist created an artificial habitat. Visitors will be able to interact with the work by using umbrellas, made of plastic and unusual fabrics, that are integral part of the exibit, and are at their disposal.
This video installation represents new ways to perceive phenomena in an urbanized and at the same time re-created habitat, where the boundaries between the real and the virtual, the natural and the artificial are blurred.
In addition, the artist wished to add to the installation an experiment in art and communication on line. During the development of the exibit, Manuela Corti will add, in real time thanks to a digital video camera, images, sounds, and comments relative to the preparation of the exhibit, and into the evening of the opening to a network site (http://www.oasinet.com/postmedia/art/corti.htm).

Manuela Corti, who for years has been exploring new concepts of time and space, recently presented PASSAGES, an Internet work of art, at the exhibit “La coscienza luccicante (The sparkling conscience)” at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, which won great success from the public and the press. This work can still be seen at http://www.cassiopea.it/passages. She took part in many exhibits in Italy and abroad, organized video-art shows, and meetings and debates on visual arts.

This exhibit, opening Thursday, December 10, 1998 at 9:00 PM, will be open Friday and Saturday from 8:30 to 11, and from December 14th to the 19th only by appointment.
