From November 17 1997 to April 20 1998, every Monday for 23 weeks we updated this site by adding four new works of web art, submitted by four artists living in different parts of the world, who interpreted visually the same text taken from an Italian novel, at the same time translating it into their own language. Every week the text was different.

The subject of this project was the novel ANTROPOECCENTRICO by Gianni Actis Barone (Edizioni dell'Ortica Publishers, Bologna 1998). This web art project is also part of the exhibit "La Coscienza Luccicante" (The Sparkling Conscience) in Rome, at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, September 16 to November 30 1998.

The author and the title of the novel were revealed only at the end of the first on-line phase of the project.
Some of the artists participating in this network work-in-progress were sought and contacted by e-mail, and others were part of a group formed a few years ago (1995) for the execution of another network project, commissioned by D-Telecom "Artifact Project", coordinated by Joop Greypink. Nonetheless, the artists do not know each other personally, and collaborated only by e-mail.

Daniele Perra, an expert in multimedia communications and new technologies, weekly followed the developing of the project and the artists's work in his commentary "VIEW ON THE PASSAGES".

Our special thanks go to Bruna Brylawski who from North Carolina translated for us all the materials appearing in the site, the passages from the novel and the press releases.

To the participating artists, my personal thanks for their accessibility and cooperation. Together, we built something that will be always part of ourselves. Our friendship will be cemented by both the project we just completed, and the other ones we will produce together. Their contribution has been much more than a simple artistic and technical support, and we continue to correspond regularly like childhood friends: those that one never forgets.
